it matters that we can see it reflected in our language.”

Interphobia

It’s simple
Putting the “I” after the “T”
Keep Intersex visible and included.
Organisations already doing this:
The UN Free & Equal campaign
The United Nation’s global public information and advocacy campaign for LGBTIQ+ equality.
Yogykarta Principles +10 is a SOGIESC inclusive human rights law which includes Intersex with the term Sex Characteristics.
All these human rights organisations and more recognise that keeping the “I” visible after the “T” matters, that visible Intersex inclusion leads to real intentional action and creates systemic change.
If you are not already doing this, it’s time to update
Why does it matter to include Intersex?
Internationally the Intersex community experience human rights violations.
Intersex people’s rights to bodily autonomy are being denied.
Intersex people across the globe are routinely subjected to non-essential medical interventions in infancy, childhood and during puberty.
These include irreversible surgical and hormonal interventions to erase Intersex people’s natural diverse sex characteristics.
Simultaneously Intersex people struggle to access ethical healthcare as children and adults.
Intersex people also experience high levels of discrimination and prejudice as well as socio-economic disadvantage.
Recognising that diverse sex characteristics should be a protected characteristic and protecting Intersex individuals from discrimination can only be achieved globally if we all keep Intersex human rights visible and included.
